Shorto in seventh heaven

Adam Shorto lived up to his billing as hot favourite to win the Island Snooker Championship by beating Ross De Carteret 5-0 at the Gremlin Club. Shorto is something of an old hand in what was his 14th final appearance, and he continued his incredible season against debutant De Carteret.

It was still a fine performance from Shorto, who had gone a long way towards his seventh title by beating Martyn Desperques and John Skillett in the previous two rounds. A modest 30 took the first frame, but as Shorto settled into his rhythm, he followed it with four breaks in the 40’s and a best of 72.

De Carteret’s chances were limited, which came as no surprise for a player who earlier in the competition had twice won a fifth frame decider from a trailing position.

Shorto will now face Jersey champion Aaron Canavan in the Channel Islands final on Friday 21 April at the North Social Club
