Desperques adds Open to Master and Shootout

Martyn Desperques is on course for a clean sweep of major individual snooker titles having won the Imperium Trust Guernsey Snooker Open at the North Social Club. Already in possession of the Masters title and with a semi to come in the Island Championship, Desperques beat Adrian Holley 3-0 to claim the Adie Locke Trophy for a seventh time.

With the tournament currently capped to 32 players, there were very few surprises through the first two rounds. Ian Eggo pushed Glenn Le Prevost to a deciding frame, but the first case of beating higher ranked opposition came when Russ Wakeford defeated Clayton Le Noury to be the only non-premier player in the quarter finals.

Wakeford’s following loss to Le Prevost set up a semi-final against Desperques, who had come through his first three matches without dropping a frame. That looked to be the case again with Le Prevost needing a snooker to stay in the match, but he did just that to make it 1-1. A 40 plus break for Le Prevost then put him in pole position for a spot in the final, but two bites of the cherry was enough for Desperques to win on the black.

Holley’s path to the final saw him beat defending champion Danny Marquand 2-1 in the quarter finals, before meeting Gary Le Noury in the semis. Le Noury claimed a notable scalp of his own by ousting John Skillett 2-1 in the last eight, but he was unable to get any joy out of Holley, who is ending the season with some of his best form.

It wasn’t enough to get the better of the final though, and despite the first two frames proving to be tight affairs, Desperques maintained control to win his third individual title of the season.
