Shorto retains Island Snooker Championship
The Channel Islands Snooker Championship final will be a rematch of last season’s thrilling encounter between Adam Shorto and Jersey’s Aaron Canavan, after the Sarnian retained his Island title by beating Martyn Desperques 5-2.
It is the first time that Shorto has won the Island Championship back to back, coming through a final that proved to be something of a slow burner.
The first three frames - that all went to the left hander - took two hours to complete and could muster no more than an early 30 break from Shorto, with Desperques’ best just a 19.
He put that right with a 32 in the next, and a break of 30 in the fifth reduced the deficit to 3-2.
The best action would come from Shorto though, as he relatively sprinted to the end with breaks of 83 and 41 to become Island champion for the eighth time.
The CI Final will be held in Jersey at the Mechanics Institute on Friday 19th April, starting at 7pm.
