Awards 2023/24
Merit Award
Gavin Denning & Glenn Le Prevost
Gavin showed great determination and dedication to the billiards format, which was fully rewarded by doing the league double and earning a place in the Island billiards team. Most notably, Gavin broke one of the longest standing records by ending the run of 13 consecutive Billiards Straight League titles for Martyn Desperques.
Glenn may not have had one of his better seasons, but he still produced a moment of magic to record his highest competitive break - a 132 clearance against Tom Brock. This is the ninth highest in our records, and stands unique in the top 20 breaks with all the others made by either Adam Shorto or Martyn Desperques.
Most Oustanding Achievement by a Non-Premier Player or Team
Chicken Dippers
The Chicken Dippers produced the type of turnaround in a season that we haven't seen before. From a winless first half of the season spent in the relegation zone, to an unbeaten second half in which they won nine matches and drew one to gain promotion from the Third Division. And, within the team, all four players improved on their personal bests in terms of frames won, with Cameron Chalker finishing nine games unbeaten and Emilio Solano unbeaten through the league to finish on 24 matches without defeat.
Most Improved Player
Jason Dixon
Jason is in his fifth year of playing but made a considerable step up from the 12 frames he won in the First Division last season. He's a player that we know has strived to improve his game, which has clearly paid off in getting 22 frames this season - almost double what he previously did. Jason also had a fine run in the Norman Wale handicap knockout by getting to the semi finals.
